This Week at the Market
We’ve got a steady flow of okra, and cucumbers now! That means pickles are up next for canning. Squash is waning as the bugs have begun to win the war. Peppers will be next to come, and tomatoes should be ripening this week I hope! Our flowers have been a big hit in the stand – order online or pick your own in the stand. We are keeping a few available all the time now.
We picked the first round from the pear tree – it was loaded! So we will be making pear jam and spiced pear bread.
The onion field really was disappointing this year. With the drought they just didn’t grow very big before the greens dried up. We dug them all up yesterday and have a good load, but they are just small. We’ve put a basket of fresh ones in the cooler at the stand – they need to be refrigerated. The rest went to the barn to cure so they are counter stable. We have Texas Early White, Red Creole, Candy Apple Red, Texas Supersweet and shallots.
As always, return your canning jars, dozen sized egg cartons and containers for market credits. I try to apply those to your account, but if I miss you please remind me!
Have a great week!
