This Week at the Market


Have you seen that forecast? We’ve got 70’s as the highs towards the end of this week! I’m so excited for that as the heat has really been brutal for working outside! I still have lots of work to do to remove summer plants and prepare to plant fall plants. Thankfully, the greenhouse has maintained a good growing temp for all our seeds. We’ve got lots of squash varieties – buttercup, butternut, delicata, zucchini, and patty pan, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, bok choy, spinach, kale, chard, and lots of lettuce varieties. We should have lots of fresh goodness to keep us going through the chilly months.

We will be refilling the apple baskets again this week and transitioning to fall baking and recipes. Also, we’re bringing back our full soup options of 4 per week.

We have added a preorder for an advent calendar that will become a family heirloom to cherish and hand down. Mine is over 50 years old and goes out every year on December 1st! Handcrafted by my Nana, it was sold in her church group Christmas Bazaar. Order and pay a minimum of 50% now and it will be ready for pick up by Thanksgiving when the balance will be due.

Ahhhhhh….RAIN! That was such a wonderful way to wash away that heat and humidity. Did you feel that 75 degree coolness?!!! I’m so glad the gardens got a good soaking too.
We’ve got some microgreens added this week. A great way to get flavor and vitamins added to your salads, sandwiches, eggs and more.
The apples were a big hit so I’ll keep those stocked for the rest of the year. My granddaughter like that idea – she had a blast at the apple barn!
I will be headed to FL after I set out your orders Saturday. I will still have my sons home, but if you forget to pick up, I won’t be here to remind you! Also, if you know you are going to pick up late in the afternoon, let me know and I will set your cooler further back so the sun doesn’t get to it.
Since I will be getting back late in the week, there will be no market on 9/9. It is also the anniversary of my husband’s passing so we will take this day be with family and celebrate our memory of his life.
Also, for those of you that asked, my daughter is doing fine now. Baby Bo is expected in December!

This Week at the Market


This week looks like it will quite the brutal heat wave on top of our already hot summer! I have to admit, my turning over the summer to fall garden has been slow going. I usually cope well in the heat, but it has even taken its toll on me! I do have some greens sprouting up – mixed kale and arugula. I’m hoping the swiss chard, beans and squash pop up too. I’ll be starting more in pots in the greenhouse so I can keep them relatively moist and not under direct scorching sun.

If you’re like me, and ready to ditch this endless heat and welcome fall….. I am going to get that feeling going with a trip to Elliajy for some apples!!!

On a personal note…. my daughter is expecting in December and has been having some complications. There is a chance I may need to delay this week’s market, but will keep you posted if that happens.

This Week at the Market


I’m still quite behind on the farm chores thanks to lots of rain or blazing heat! Farming is not for the faint of heart! Lots of our plants are withering under the conditions so we will have slim offerings for a while from the garden. I’m open this week, but scaled back a bit as I am trying to get the summer plants out, soil amended and fall garden in. I am starting microgreens so we will have those by next week, maybe sooner. I will post on FB and update via this newsletter as well if they do come in by market day.

This Week at the Market


I’d like to take a moment and thank each and every one of you that support this market. It is my passion and gives me such joy to meet new customers at the stand and ones who have been coming for many years! That keeps me going!
I am, however, going to step away from the kitchen this week. I have fallen way behind on removing the old and planting the new crops, and maintaining the property. I will have the stand stocked, but no preorders for this week so I can concentrate on making sure we have plenty in the ground growing for the fall.
On a good note, I discovered the fig trees have been growing wildly and have small figs on the new branches! So, we actually WILL have a small harvest this year. I will be offering these to our online market and Facebook followers only so you will get them if you want them! I am guessing it will be mid September when they ripen.

This Week at the Market


Good morning! School is about to start and the grocery stores are setting out pumkin decorations. I guess fall is around the corner LOL!!! We are definitely makng transitions here around the farm too. Our greens beds have suffered with the heat and the bugs so we are pulling them out today, amending the soil and will replant more greens in another area. While we already have had white pumpkins coming in since spring, we will be planting big orange ones for fall harvest.
Our okra was doing so well until the deer found a way to them. I have a few still producing so hoping they give us a few baskets each week!

Good morning! It looks like we’ve got a really hot week coming up! I was glad to see the rain last week as we really needed a good soaking. We fared pretty well during that storm – only some minor damage. I hope you all stayed safe and didin’t receive any of the damage I saw with some of those huge trees that came down!
This is the point of the summer I feel like the grass is winning. Everything is growing so fast and I can’t keep up! With that comes a bounty from the garden so enjoy all the fresh goodness. Before you know it, school will start and pumpkins and apples will be here LOL!
Working outside this week? Don’t forget to styay hydrated AND get your electolytes. Try our Strawberry Ginger Switchel. I’m making up a batch to keep going out in the heat while tending the gardens!

This Week at the Market


Good morning! We’ve got such a bounty at this time of year! It’s nice to walk around the farm and see what all the hard work produces. It’s especially nice to see customers that come and go enjoyng the plethora of items we have to offer. I just want to take a moment and thank you all for continuing to make what I do worth all the effort. I am blessed to have such wonderful customers, neighbors and friends of the market!
This week, AB Farms is back with their beautiful garlic! I have them in the market and in the stand. Also, get our farm friend Chip’s Candy Apple Red Onions in the stand as well!
I hope you enjoyed the fresh picked corn we were lucky to get last weekend! I saved a bag for this week’s creamed corn, salad, and soup!
The watermelon is looking beautiful. I had one that weighed in at 35 ppounds! That one has sold, but there are 2 more smaller ones ready this week.
I am sad to say we have been battling a predator this past week. It has set its sights on our duck flock and has managed to leave us with only 3 healthy and one injured one left. I am hoping to get this thing trapped, but so far has eluded capture. Needless to say, duck eggs will be sparse for some time. Our chickens are coping with the heat and have slowed a bit in laying. We did double the flock size again from our spring hatch. They should begin laying next month!
